Initial Thoughts

My first thoughts on this project were to use a poem that my friend made up whilst on the phone to me when she had been at the pub. However, I thought further into how I would translate this into a moving image piece and felt that it wouldn't be very successful. My next thoughts were to look at French poetry but decided against this.

Final Edit of Animation

Choice of Music

I decided to use 'In The Mood' by The Glenn Miller Orchestra as the soundtrack to my animation as I feel that the music fits well with the theme of home. This music links to my childhood and home as I used to tap dance to the song and practiced at home on a square piece of wood. The music is from the 1940s and is associated by many to wartime and dances in the era but is a very upbeat piece.

Some Stills of My Work

This is a shot from my poetry animation. I feel that this section was successful and I would be able to use this as a stand-alone image if I edited it in Photoshop slightly. Using the spaghetti letters to spell out the words was a really effective method in my opinion and I may develop this further in a photographic sense rather than using animation. I could use famous quotes from various sources and develop them into a piece using objects that relate to their topics.  Through this project I have been able to develop my skills using stop frame animation, however for the next project I will focus on stills rather than moving image.

This is a still from another section of my animation. I used a fridge and alphabet magnets for it. I feel that this part of the animation is successful, but not as successful as the part using toast and spaghetti letters to spell out a section of the poem. The piece works well together as a whole as there is a recurring rhythm throughout.

This is another still from my film using a line from my selected poem. I feel that having such a strong negative message on cupcakes, which are usually viewed as a positive thing works really well as there is a strong contrast between the message and how it is presented. This could link to how facades are put up within society to mask hidden feelings or negative events.

How I Developed My Ideas

Firstly, I looked at poetry I had previously studied, however none of the poems I liked related to how I wanted to present the work. If I had used one of the other poems on my blog, the themes would not match and it wouldn't be in context. I decided to look for a poem about home, as this was the setting for my stop-frame animation. I feel that this has worked a lot more effectively than if I had used a poem about a different subject as it was in context. This project has been a challenge, however I feel that it has been a success considering I do not specialize in moving image.

My Final Choice of Poem

I am using a poem called ‘Home Is Where Your Heart Lives’ for my stop-frame animation. I am going to use objects commonly found in -and associated with- the home within the piece, for example alphabet fridge magnets. I will use these to spell out sections of the poem in the animation.
I am going to develop this further by using ‘Alphabetti Spaghetti’ to spell out sections of the poem on slices of toast on a plate in stop-motion. Each letter will appear separately throughout the animation to spell out the section of the poem.
I am also going to look at icing lettering onto cupcakes. Baking is a common occurrence in the home, which links to the theme of the poem.
